An individual who laced candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement again.
She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
